JUNE 12, DEMOCRACY DAY CELEBRATION- NBA IBADAN BRANCH EXCO LAUDS MEMBERS STEADFASTNESS IN PROMOTING THE RULE OF LAW.

In a press release of the 2022-2024 Executive Committee of NBA, Ibadan, the Executive Committee members recounts the agitation of the masses in ensuring the departure from the military rule after the annulment of the Presidential election of June 12, 1993.

They acknowledged the price paid by our heroes past in entrenching constitutional democracy in Nigeria before it became stabilized since 1999 till date and further emphasized that the role of Legal Practitioners in the entire struggle cannot be overemphasized. The Chairman; Mrs. Aladeniyi also highlighted constant criticism of governments’ policies, protection and enforcement of citizens rights amongst others as ways by which the NBA has aided in nurturing and sustaining our democracy.

As stated in the Chairman’s speech at the just concluded Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Branch which held two days ago, she urged all of us to work in harmony as the voice of the masses at our branch level and to keep doing everything possible within the law to ensure the protection and promotion of the rule of law.

The branch Secretary; Mr. Akintola also admonished the political class on behalf of the branch to reflect deeply on the aftermath of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election and urge them to be selfless in their political endeavours. He warns that never again should our nation experience the truncation of the masses’ franchise as was done in 1993.

While we all hope and wait for the fulfillments of the various electoral promises made to us by the current democratically elected officers in the course of their campaigns, the Executive Committee members of the branch says, a Happy Democracy Day to us all and we wish us the very best in our respective endeavours.
